Operational Robotics for Assisted Quality Control in Defense

ROCCA (Operational Robotics for Quality Control, Inspection and Assisted Maintenance for Defense) is a strategic program aimed at the development of advanced robotics technologies, artificial intelligence, and autonomous systems applied to critical defense environments, with a comprehensive training plan to be implemented between 2026 and 2029.

Context
The Security and Defense sector currently presents significant limitations derived from insufficient digitalization and a lack of flexible automation, which affect key processes such as inspection, quality control, maintenance, and technical operation. ROCCA was created precisely to address these challenges by proposing the integration of Industry 5.0 Dual Technologies in these sectors: artificial intelligence, advanced robotics, multimodal sensing, extended reality (XR), and digital twins.

AIR Institute leads the training work package within this network, connecting technological centers, universities, and companies to build the specialized human capital required by this technological leap.

Objectives

  • Develop immersive simulation scenarios using XR/AR/haptics for safe and efficient operational training.
  • Create digital twins for predictive analysis, lifecycle optimization, and performance improvement of platforms and equipment.
  • Develop collaborative robotics oriented toward flexible production processes and advanced maintenance.
  • Implement autonomous mobile robotics for intelligent inspection, automated logistics, and field operations.
  • Integrate advanced artificial intelligence for predictive maintenance, operational autonomy, and assisted decision-making.
