AIR Institute promotes AG-Lab with funding to boost its research in conversational agents

The International Institute for Research in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science Foundation (AIR Institute) will launch AG-Lab, a laboratory dedicated to the development and experimentation of intelligent conversational agents. This initiative is supported by ERDF (FEDER) funds managed by the Regional Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Government of Castile and León through the call for investment support aimed at improving the scientific and technological capacities of the region’s technology centres.

The grant awarded, amounting to €87,922.15, will strengthen the centre’s technological infrastructure through the acquisition of high-performance scientific equipment for research and development activities.

AG-Lab is designed to create a specialised environment for the design, development and validation of intelligent conversational agents based on Large Language Models, deep learning techniques and evolutionary algorithms. Through this laboratory, advanced solutions will be developed to improve decision-making, document management and process optimisation in strategic sectors such as healthcare, energy, industry, logistics and cybersecurity.

To achieve this, the project includes the incorporation of high-performance computing infrastructure, including specialised servers, storage systems, networking equipment and advanced workstations. This new technological environment will expand the centre’s capacity to address more complex R&D challenges, while also supporting the growth of the research team and the development of new research lines.

The initiative is aligned with the objectives of the Castile and León ERDF Operational Programme 2021–2027, which aims to promote a more competitive and smarter economy by strengthening research and innovation capabilities and supporting the adoption of advanced technologies. In this context, the project also aligns with the RIS3 Strategy of Castile and León 2021–2027, contributing to business digitalisation, knowledge generation and the retention of technological talent in the region.

With the launch of AG-Lab, AIR Institute aims to consolidate its role as a key player in the development of conversational technologies and in the transfer of knowledge to industry, fostering innovation and supporting the economic and social development of Castile and León.

Policy Objective – PO 1: A more competitive and smarter Europe by promoting an innovative and smart economic transformation and regional connectivity to information and communication technologies, within the ERDF Operational Programme 2021–2027 of Castile and León.
