Niko Gómez, creator of Spain’s first web series Cálico Electrónico, to feature at the El Jap! Meetings in Salamanca on 28 November
On Thursday, 28 November, The El Jap! Meetings will host its third session, welcoming Niko Gómez, the creator of Cálico Electrónico, Spain’s first web series and a landmark in digital animation. Gómez is also the founder of Nikotxan, a studio renowned for producing series such as Las Crónicas Trol, Retorno al Futuro, and Pésame Street.
This highly anticipated event will take place at 6:30 PM at Nero Restaurant, situated in the iconic Plaza Mayor of Salamanca. Admission is free but limited to the venue’s capacity, and registration can be completed online at this link. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage directly with Niko Gómez, ask questions, and gain insights into his creative process—making it a must-attend for students and professionals in animation.
The El Jap Meetings are held monthly, alternating between experts in animation and video games. The series debuted in September with Borja Montoro, a character designer and animator who has worked with industry giants such as DreamWorks, Warner Bros, and Walt Disney Animation Studios. October’s session featured Rocío Tomé, co-founder of Patattie Games and FemDevs, and a developer with experience at Unity Technologies, the globally recognised video game software company.
These events are part of El Jap!, an initiative driven by AIR Institute and the Institute for Business Competitiveness of Castile and León (ICECYL), an agency of the regional government. As part of ICECYL’s Wolaria accelerator programme, the project aims to position Salamanca as a hub of innovation and make Castile and León a key player in the video game and animation industries. By fostering talent and supporting innovative projects, El Jap! is gaining momentum as a platform for collaboration and growth, backed by industry experts, local businesses, the University of Salamanca, and the Salamanca City Council.
Registration for the session with Niko Gómez is free and open online. Details of upcoming meetings, as well as further resources on training, job opportunities, and events, are available on the official El Jap! website.
