AQUILON: Artificial Intelligence to Forecast the Weather with Greater Accuracy
Weather prediction is entering a new era thanks to the AQUILON project, a joint initiative by SOLUTE and AIR Institute that aims to revolutionise the way atmospheric forecasts are generated and used. How? By integrating artificial intelligence, big open linked data (BOLD), and cutting-edge technologies such as Big Data and the Internet of Things (IoT).
AQUILON not only seeks to enhance the accuracy of weather forecasts, but also to tailor them to the specific needs of key sectors: renewable energy, agri-food, logistics, transport, and maritime operations.
Through Deep Learning models, the platform will be able to anticipate significant atmospheric phenomena with greater precision, optimising decision-making in environments where every hour of forecasting counts. This marks a step forward towards ensuring more efficient use of natural resources and advancing a more sustainable economy.
A greener electricity system, more efficient farmland, or better planned logistics routes are just some of the many practical applications of this powerful tool, based on open data and AI.
The AQUILON project is funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation (CPP2021-008737) and by the European Union NextGenerationEU/PRTR.
