Experts meet at the first Advisory Board of the Farms4Climate project to boost sustainability in Mediterranean agriculture

AIR Institute coordinates the Farms4Climate: Smart governance and operational models for agroecological carbon farming project. As a consortium, its main objective is to operationalise carbon farming for smallholder farmers, which is made possible through the ad hoc development of a series of digital enablers, including the creation of a C-credit platform.

Farms4Climate has held its first meeting with the Advisory Board which will advise on issues relating to legislation, technology and sustainability. This inaugural meeting was held to inform the board on the development of the project, which is currently at the midpoint: month 18 of 36.

The project has implemented six Living Labs in Italy, Egypt, Tunisia, Greece and Spain, with the main objective of fostering sustainable transformation in Mediterranean agriculture. The main goal is to facilitate the creation and development of community-based organizations (CBOs) that promote economic growth through the adoption of agroecological practices and carbon management.

To achieve this goal, the project focuses on the development of the aforementioned digital enablers to allow smallholder farmers to adopt carbon farming on an operational level. It also seeks to empower stakeholders through programmes designed to foster eco-entrepreneurship and promote transformative gender dynamics.

The next meeting will be held in April 2024 in Greece and is expected to be attended by all the partners, the representatives of each CBO and the members of the Advisory Board.
