State-of-the-art camera for accurate bird detection
The use of cutting-edge technology is key to the success of IA4Birds, a project coordinated by AIR Institute and funded by FundaciĆ³n Biodiversidad. The project aims to use artificial intelligence and audiovisual devices to monitor bird populations and thus, relying on more detailed knowledge, prevent threats and decide whether or not a site is suitable for the construction of a wind farm.
Among the technology that will be used, the AXIS Q6225-LE PTZ camera is a key component for bird detection as its features are essential for the success of the project. First of all, the camera boasts an HDTV 1080p resolution that provides exceptional image quality, which results in accurate bird detection in the environment of interest. Moreover, equipped with a 1/2" sensor and a 31x optical zoom, this camera is able to capture fine details even at long distances, which is essential for the bird observation and monitoring purposes of the IA4Birds project, an initiative in which AIR Institute is supported by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO), within the framework of the European Union-funded Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) - NextGenerationEU.
Another benefit of AXIS Q6225-LE PTZ is the set of advanced technologies included in the device: Light Finder, Forensic WDR and OptimizedIR. These technologies ensure clear and sharp images even in difficult lighting conditions, which is essential for reliable bird detection in different environments. In addition, the camera is equipped with built-in analytics, simplifying AI training for bird detection and model retraining and alert generation when needed.
Axis Zipstream technology with H.264/H.265 also plays a crucial role. This technology significantly reduces bandwidth and storage requirements without sacrificing image quality, enabling the efficient management of resources and camera-generated data.
When it comes to operating conditions, AXIS Q6225-LE PTZ demonstrates exceptional robustness. The camera is able to withstand shocks and adverse weather conditions, including wind speeds of up to 245 km/h (150 mph). In addition, it complies with the MIL-STD-810G standard, ensuring reliable operation even in the most demanding conditions, which is essential for maintaining the continuity of our observations in adverse situations.
In summary, AXIS Q6225-LE PTZ is an indispensable tool for bird detection applications thanks to its combination of exceptional resolution, advanced imaging capabilities, state-of-the-art technologies and ruggedness in harsh conditions.
This camera will not only enhance the accuracy of observations, which is critical to the success of the project, but will also contribute to the efficiency of IA4Birds as a whole.
