The Internet of Things and AI Centre, pillar of Salamanca Tech, strengthens its leadership with the international project dAIEDGE

The Salamanca City Council continues to work tirelessly on its commitment to positioning the city as a global benchmark in innovation and technological development through its Salamanca Tech initiative. This programme is supported by the Regional Government of Castilla y León, the Institute for Business Competitiveness of Castilla y León (ICECYL), the universities, and the local ecosystem of talent and entrepreneurship.

At the heart of this strategy lies one of its key pillars: the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence Centre, also known as the AIR Institute, which drives the technological dimension of Salamanca Tech. From its facilities, the centre promotes scientific research in crucial areas such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, and electronics, consolidating Salamanca as a reference hub for digital innovation.

The Internet of Things and AI Centre is made up of a young, multidisciplinary team that leads research and development projects at regional, national, and international level. Its expertise is reflected in its involvement in more than 90 R&D projects to date, carried out in collaboration with businesses as well as through publicly funded competitive calls.

Among its most significant current initiatives is the international project dAIEDGE – A network of excellence for distributed, trustworthy, efficient and scalable AI at the Edge. Its purpose is to strengthen a dynamic European ecosystem in cutting-edge artificial intelligence under the umbrella of the European AI Lighthouse. This consortium, bringing together 36 partners from 15 countries, aims to position Europe as a global leader in the data economy and its applications, while supporting the development of policies, governance frameworks, and state-of-the-art AI technologies.
