AIR Institute, recognized by the European Commission for its artificial intelligence literacy practices

Europe highlights our training practices; we are a European benchmark promoting literacy in artificial intelligence. These best practices in AI combine training, ethics, regulatory compliance, and support for the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

AIR Institute has been recognized by the European Commission for its artificial intelligence literacy practices, following its inclusion in the new AI Literacy Practices Repository and in the official report “AI Literacy Practices – Insights from the European AI Office Survey”, produced by the EU AI Office in collaboration with the ARISA (Artificial Intelligence Skills Alliance) project, funded by the Erasmus+ program.

The repository contains more than forty initiatives from companies, public administrations, and academic institutions across Europe aimed at strengthening the skills necessary for the responsible use of artificial intelligence, in line with the provisions of Article 4 of the European Artificial Intelligence Regulation (AI Act), in force since February 2, 2025.

European benchmark in AI literacy

The inclusion of AIR Institute in this European repository recognizes its work in the design and implementation of training programs in artificial intelligence, as well as in supporting SMEs and public organizations in responsible technology adoption processes.

AIR Institute participated in the two rounds of practice collection promoted by the European Commission between December 2024 and June 2025. The initiatives presented were evaluated by the EU AI Office and finally incorporated after meeting the criteria of transparency, reliability, and applied approach established for publication.

Training, SMEs, and the public sector

The practices developed by AIR Institute and recognized by the European Commission include:

- Training programs on the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, with a special focus on ethical, regulatory, and governance aspects.

- Training activities aimed at SMEs and public entities, developed through the European Digital Innovation Hub DIGIS3.

- Assessment and support methodologies, adapted to the level of digital maturity and the risks associated with the use of AI systems.

These initiatives aim to help organizations understand and apply artificial intelligence safely, efficiently, and in accordance with the European regulatory framework.

Support for compliance with the AI Act

The European repository is the European Union's first reference inventory to support the practical implementation of Article 4 of the AI Act, which requires an adequate level of AI literacy among staff who design, use, or supervise artificial intelligence systems.

The European Commission points out that the publication of practices does not imply an automatic presumption of compliance with the regulation or a formal assessment of the participating entities, although the repository serves as a reference and learning tool for organizations across Europe.

Commitment to responsible AI

With this recognition, AIR Institute reinforces its position as an applied research and knowledge transfer institute committed to the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence in Europe.

The organization will continue to work on research, training, and collaboration initiatives with the business and public ecosystem to contribute to the adoption of AI in line with the principles of security, ethics, transparency, and regulatory compliance established by the European Union.
